How Can Buyers Be Sure?

How can buyers be sure they have compliant product?

The evolution of ISO/PAS 17712:2006 places much more emphasis on the manufacture, process control and audit integrity of suppliers as well as on the quality of the product itself.

Members of C-TPAT will be well aware of the latest published version of ISO/PAS 17712:2006 which relates to the securing and sealing of freight containers.

Many security seal buyers are confused by seal manufacturer’s claims of conformance.  ISO/PAS 17712:2006 means that all suppliers must back these claims up by providing certificates to prove that their seals and their processes meet the new rigorous requirements of this latest version. C-TPAT members must be particularly vigilant that an appropriate supplier is selected who meets all the criteria.

So, how can you tell the difference between those who comply and those who don’t?

There are two positive ways of knowing if the supplier and their products conform to the requirements of ISO/PAS 17712.

1. Ask For Proof

If your supplier is not an ISMA member request sight of conformance certificates relating to the product testing and the Normative annex.

The certificates for the product testing should originate from an ISO/IEC 17025 independent test house and the certificate for the Normative annex should originate from an independent third party auditor.

2. Source From An ISMA Member

Source your seals from a member of the International Seal Manufacturers Association (ISMA).  Remember, all members of ISMA conform fully and completely to ISO/PAS 17712: 2006 and compliance certificates will be made readily available to you.
